Time on the Job
The fault we see most in Andover isn't the one you'd guess from the service area at large. Most Andover houses went up in the early-to-mid 1990s - newer than the service area's median build year of 1982 - which means the garage doors we're called out for are steel sectional doors on torsion springs sized for the heavier insulated panels that became standard around that time. That's a different failure pattern than the older one-piece doors and side-mounted hardware you find in the area's oldest pockets. The spring wound for a 1993-era double door carries more cycles before it snaps, but when it does, it tends to go all at once rather than fraying slowly.
Andover sits about 11 miles out from our Maple Grove base, toward the edge of where we run calls. We don't keep a branch or a crew stationed in Andover - every job here is a truck that drives out from Maple Grove, same as the rest of the towns we cover. That's worth knowing up front: we're not the fastest option if you need someone standing by down the street, but we show up with the same stock and the same person doing the work every time.
What Is on the Truck
For a town built mostly in the 1990s, the parts that get used are torsion springs in the sizes that match standard steel sectional doors, galvanized lift cables, nylon rollers, and the sensors and logic boards that go with openers from that era needing a safety-reversal upgrade. We stock common torsion spring sizes and standard track hardware on the truck. What we don't carry as a rule is anything custom - a non-standard panel width or a discontinued opener board - and if your door needs one of those, we'll tell you it's a lead-time item rather than pretend we can finish it same visit.
The Symptom
The call we get most from this part of the service area is a door that won't go up, or goes up and slams back down - the torsion spring has let go. On a 1990s-built double door, that spring is carrying more weight than the single-car doors common in older stock, so when it breaks, the door is noticeably harder to lift by hand and the opener strains or trips its overload protection trying to compensate. A second common call is an opener from that same build era finally failing - the gears strip or the logic board gives out after enough winters in an unheated garage, which this part of Minnesota gets its share of.
How to Book
Since we run this route from Maple Grove rather than keeping a crew in Andover, we ask for a call ahead so we can route the truck and bring the right spring size and opener parts for a door built around 1993.
